April 25 | In Memory of Sylvester PERA Sasso
On the occasion of April 25, Liberation Day, we wish to commemorate the memory of Silvestro Sasso and his participation in the Partisan Resistance in our Cuneo.
With the battle name of Pera, a nickname rooted in the Piedmontese dialect, where “pear” recalled the hardness and solidity of “stone,” thus with his surname, Silvestro was a valiant and tireless fighter.
Beginning in 1943, Sasso fervently joined the ranks of the partisans, actively participating in the fight for freedom. His efforts culminated in the liberation of Cuneo, which took place three days after April 25, on April 28. In those decisive days, Silvestro fought bravely in the streets of our city, deployed in the 20th and 21st Brigades of the Justice and Freedom group.
Sylvester Pera Sasso, a tenacious and tough fighter in both name and deed.
His service to the community did not end with the Liberation.
Silvestro Sasso’s memory is not only linked to his heroic contribution to the Resistance. We also remember his commitment to keeping the family business alive during the difficult years of the conflict, demonstrating tenacity and a sense of responsibility.
Immediately after the end of the war, Silvestro Sasso took over as alderman of the City of Cuneo for a year until the 1946 elections, devoting himself with the same fighting spirit to the reconstruction and rebirth of our city.
On this day of celebration, we honor the memory of Sylvester “Pera” Sasso, an example of courage, dedication and love for his land, who knew how to fight for freedom and commit himself to the future of Cuneo. May his memory be a warning and inspiration to present and future generations.
